Look of the Day: Vintage Inspired Rosette Dress by twobirds

Rosette Dress by twobirds

Isn’t this darling dress the epitome of Hollywood glamour from the late 1950s/early 1960s?

New York Magazine is churning out fabulous style look books these days. A couple of weeks ago, I posted Michelle Obama’s Style Look Book, and now they have another one – this one’s especially for magnanimous brides who want their bridesmaids to actually enjoy their dresses for something other than fabric remnants after the wedding. This is my personal favorite, a vintage inspired dusty rose, rosette dress by twobirds. I’m not sure I’d let my bridesmaid wear this one though – it’s much too lovely! Browse the look book and see other vintage-inspired as well as modern takes on bridesmaid dresses that blow the lid off those legendary, prom-esque, one-night only creations of the past. That’s a very GOOD thing.

Regardless of texture, I LOVE great lines on womens clothing. Of course, those lines must bend and curve to follow the road wherever a woman’s body takes them…

Happenings: Fall 2009 Manhattan Vintage Fashion Show

It’s that time of year again for vintage fashionistas in the tri-State area to come out and revel in the glamour of the Manhattan Vintage Fashion Show . The Fall edition of the show is less than a month away, October 9 – 10, 2009.

If you’ve attended the shows before, then you know my excitement. If you haven’t, and you’re into true vintage style, then you’re in for a treat. There is no place else in the area to be during this weekend of flea market-style browsing and shopping. Shoes, hats, dresses, gowns, furs, pins, textiles– find your heart’s desire.

The Manhattan Vintage Fashion Shows are held twice a year in NYC.  Situated on the lower West side, vintage fashion dealers from all over the country converge in a mecca of displays of everything one could wish for in a vintage wonderland. A lot of the items come from New York and New England glam estates so be sure to bring your clutch full of green. Good news: many vendors take plastic.

The last time I went, I found an unbelievable suit that is still a favorite — great find from an Atlanta dealer. Ask a woman who knows, you won’t be disappointed!

Enjoy!

I Don’t Know Much…

I don’t know rocket science. I don’t pretend to.

I can’t tell your future. Do you really want to know it anyway?

I can’t tell you from where the next solar eclipse can be seen.

But STYLE and FASHION–  I KNOW!!  Ask A Woman Who Knows… and I’ll show you a thing or two.  Here are some nice shopping tips from the New York Times’ Bargains Abound for the Frugal Fashionista for those of us on a budget.  Enjoy!

Look of the Day – Embellished Vintage Cashmere Sweater

If I had all the money in the world, a nice chunk of it would be spent on vintage items like this! Finish off with a pair of cream, wool cigarette pants, kitten heels and clutch and you’re set. The updo of course is a given.
